Is there any reason why Peony Root is referred to as White Peony Root?  Do other colors of Peonies work too?  Or is it in reference to the color of the root?  Thank you.

I don't think that other colors of peonies work the same. I've seen these other peony varieties, including red and pink peonies, but they may not have the same medicinal properties as the White Peony.

Red Peony and White Peony are actually from the same plant, but they are prepared differently. Red is simply the dried peony root, whereas White is peeled to remove the root's outer layer and then boiled.
