Nursing mom using herbs

#1

I'm about to wean my 16 month old, but part of me doesn't want to just because I want to keep the boobs! I have half the supply I used to, but my boobs have stayed about the same size. So, before I wean, I've decided to try some methods while I have a bit of an advantage, and I'm not on birth control. I researched herbs listed here that are safe for baby, and came up with blessed thistle, fenugreek, fennel seed, milk thistle, and goat's rue. Mommy Knows Best is the brand I am using for all the herbs, mainly because most are combined, and I only then need to take 2 pills 4 times a day. It also instructs you not to drink 15 mins before and wait 15 mins after, besides like 2oz to swallow them. I'm already getting some pains I didn't get before, but who knows yet what those mean! Any tips? It is at least starting to help my milk supply!

I continue to feel what are kind of like growing pains, but my period has also been delayed. I just keep spotting. I guess I need to cycle!

Oh, false alarm! Just a minor delay. I might just be trying to regulate still.

Hi
EllaC had a few comments on keeping post nursing breasts.
I believe she used massage.
Hopefully she will chime in, but you can search her posts.

Thanks Bobbi xxx

Yes post breastfeeding is the most awesome time to “keep” those breastfeeding boobs.
ive been there and done that. Lucky for me ive got to the point of relactation almost... but the boost in prolactin has been enough to keep my nipples first and foremost perky . But kept fullness  also.
However if you are fresh post breastfeeding it might induce lactation again and you may get mastitis  Huh (a risk you may take?)
Otherwise there is a programe out there that brings you to the brink of almost lactation. they claim it works but ive not tried it yet.

honestly ive always thought by the assumption the longer you breast feed the better protection against female cancers , be it by way of delayed periods or otherwise i cant advise or know...

what i do know is from personal experience friends family otheriwise tend to keepntheir big boobs second time around breastfeeding. just my personal observations ?

This is my 3rd kiddo, but I only pumped with the first, and after the second was weaned, I had a dramatic weight loss in the matter of a month or two, so I didn't keep much of anything! Lol Right now, in one bra at least, I am about a 32D and a bit asymmetrical.  Continuing to lactate wouldn't bother me. I can handle a little mastitis.  ? I'm weaning slowly, so right now, tops I get like 8oz a day, but they don't seem any smaller than what they were when I was making 16oz a day. I pump twice at work and get 3oz, then nurse once or twice when I'm  home in the evening. I've heard that about breastfeeding lowering chances on cancer, so hopefully I'm in the clear by now! Lol

So, I've read that spearmint tea helps with BE, but it is also said to lower milk supply. If baby weans, and my supply is no longer a concern to me, will it backfire for me to take spearmint with these milk increasing herbs, or maybe will it level out???

Do you think adding in some shatavari is a good or bad idea? I bought some that are 40% saponins because I couldn't find 50% like surferjoe suggested.

I quit taking the shatavari because once I started it, the pains went away.
