As in pee out potassium or something similar?
I wonder if we are just supposed to have 8 glasses a day....
Water intoxication, also known as water poisoning, is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside safe limits by overhydration.
Water, just like any other substance, can be considered a poison when over-consumed in a specific period of time. Water intoxication mostly occurs when water is being consumed in a high quantity without adequate electrolyte intake
Water intoxication can be prevented if a person's intake of water does not grossly exceed their losses. Healthy kidneys are able to excrete approximately 0.8 to 1 litre of fluid water (0.21 - 0.26 gallons) per hour.
water without electrolytes? what does that mean?
thanks kata, youre a little wealth of info arent you
Electrolytes are what make your brain work, some sports/energy drinks have electrolytes in them to replace electrolytes you sweat out during exercise. Electrolytes can be consumed in food and drink, if the balance of electrolytes in your body gets too messed up then you can become very ill because your brain will have trouble sending signals to the rest of your body. In a sense you are drowning the brain.
There are electrolyte replacement medicines for when people have vomiting/diarrhoea and is a major treatment for anorexia and bulimia.
There's some things I know about, not many things mind you, and I'm happy to be able to contribute where I can
Ok im with you. So if you drink too much water without electrolytes your in trouble, but big question how do you get electrolytes? Like which foods or ??? give you the extra electrolytes you need if you are drinking too much water?
Like BB im also drinking soo much water at the mo cause i was told i have too, to the piont of alot of urinating so are we both overdoing it?
The main electrolytes are salts, acids and bases (alkalis), these can be found in various foods.
It might be worth cutting down if you feel you are urinating too much. If your urine is completely clear you are probably drinking too much, if it is very yellow (dark) you are not drinking enough.
This is just what I remember from chemistry and biology at school. I could try to explain electrolytes further but would probably recall it wrong.
