Raising temp
#8

Hi again Hopeful D/DDs!

BBT= Basal Body Temperature

The beginning of your cycle is the first day of real bleeding of your menses. Your follicular phase starts at the beginning of your cycle and continues through till the day before you ovulate. Ovulation marks the beginning of your luteal phase and continues through till the last day of your cycle (the day before the first day of your next cycle or, in other words, the day before the first day of real bleeding of your menses).

If you chart your BBT, you usually see a sharp dip in temperature (but not always) before a sudden spike in temperature (always) mid-way through your cycle. This sudden drastic dip in temperature is usually due to a sudden extra surge of estrogen that your body naturally releases at the onset of ovulation to help release the egg. The sudden spike in temperature within 24 hours later is--you guessed it--you've ovulated and the egg is on it's way. Once ovulation has occurred, estrogen levels drop and progesterone levels increase, resulting in the higher temperature in luteal phase. Estrogen makes your temps drop, and progesterone raises them. See the attached BBT chart below to get an idea... and here is a link you may find helpful as it goes into more detail about the things of which I wrote above. http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Link-Between-Body-Temperature-Ovulation-and-Pregnancy

And here is a link confirming my notion that body temperatures going as low as around 97 degrees DO NOT HAVE TO indicate a problem: http://conception.lifetips.com//cat/23650/fertility-charting/index.html
