Are Wild Yam and Huai San the same thing?

Can someone please tell me what "naga" ?

I went to an asian grocery and no one there can tell me what these things are. Can someone please help, and where to find these things?? Thanks so much

In Asian stores I've seen nagaimo (strange looking potato) and wondered if that's the same as naga. Ask for nagaimo.

naga is some type of wild yam i think, in asain supermarkets they usually call it "huai-shan", there are different colors, brown, purple, white. i have only seen the white ones in US so far, it looks like a long white stick about arm size with "hair" on it. if you peel it, it's very gluey. you can peel and chop then put in freezer, no need to thaw before use. see this link.

P.S. if you want to make naga milk, you need to use white ones, i read purple and browns need to be cooked.

I'm sure that naga and nagaimo are the same (japanese yam or mountain yam).

It's definitely a yam and not a potato.
