Hi there
I bought some fenugreek capsules - then noticed on the bottle that it said Appetite stimulant - aids in digestion.
Eek - I don't want to gain weight - not that I am overweight or anything - far from it. But I like the way I am now.
Is this true????

As I know fenugreek is an apetite stimulant. Also I read a writing about it on the net and it says; fenugreek is used as an apetite stimulant. It increase power and fitness. At the same time it is used for hair, gives brightness and color, removes aches.
All kind of herbs have good and bad effects. I think the most important thing is how many do you use it from them. Maybe you should't use it everyday.
good luck!

Fenugreek is said to be an appetite stimulant, that's for sure, but I don't know what dose you would need. Anyway, I'm taking 1800mg a day and it has no effect whatever on my appetite.

Yes fenugreek can cuase you to be a little more hungrier but If you make healthy food chioces it shouldnt be a big problem for you. Like instead of a handfull of chips grab some fruit or something healthy to help clam cravings.
Fenugreek can cause mild bloating (water retention) in some people too.
Generally if you take it with another herb that is a duiretic herb, it should not cause bloating. Duiretics cause you to pee more, and helps controll the possible bloating.
I have been taking fenugreek for 2 weeks now today, and I dont feel any hungrier than before. I also dont want to gian wieght and am happy were I am and the "gaining wieght" thing was on my mind too. Actually I havent even bloated from the fenugreek at all. I really like it and I added an extra one, and it does seem to be helping my boobies!
I take red clover, which is a duiretic, so it may be couteracting the "bloating" effects of the fenugreek. So if you are real concerned about this then perhaps you should go ahead and take the red clover now instead of waiting like we talked about before.
Another possiblity is use fennel instead. (it works the oppisite off fenugreek, it is said to be a good one to loose weight) I know you dont want to loose wieght, but you could just make sure you eat the same amount you do now, and it shouldnt make you loose.
So basically you could add red clover with the fenugreek to balance the "wieght" issue out. OR you could switch to fennel and make sure you eat the same as you do now as to not loose weight.
Another possiblity would be to take the fennel and fenugreek together, they do the opposite in the appitite area and may "balance" each other out.
Just start low with them because they both stimulate prolactin and like I mentioned before you dont want to stall because of to much prolactin stimulation goin on.
I hope this helps a bit.Take Care Brenda!

Thanks for your quick repies ladies.
Sunset, I think I will start on the Red Clover now. I can't say that I have noticed bloating - I never have been a "bloater" but I do remember when I was on the fenugreek extract before that I was voraciously hungry all the time. My morning bagel wouldn't even get me to 10am!!
I have thought about combining the fenugreek and fennel together. I am waiting to see if I can stand the fenugreek capsules - maybe I am being overly sensitive about the smell thing. I will wait until next week and see if I still feel the same about the smell.
