Vitex: Is it estrogenic or on the progesterone side?

I've been hearing a lot on this herb lately, but no one's mentioned whether it's got a more estrogenic affect than progesteronic (is that a word?). I would like to know which hormone this herb favors. . .

Vitex acts on the pituitary gland to release your body's own hormones in balance. So you could call it estrogenic and progesteronic. It doesn't "mimic" estrogen or progesterone in the body like other phytoestrogens. That's why many women use it to balance their hormones and they use it alone.

According to my research, vitex is ultimately progesteronic in its effect on the body. Check out the info on herbs section on the main page. I posted some info there. The herb itself has a very mild phytoestrogen, but it causes the body to produce progesterone.
Progesterone does stimulate estrogen receptors, so even if a substance is totally progesteronic, it will enhance estrogen.
