Herbs & pregnancy

#1
Question

How safe is it to use Pueraria Mirifica and other herbs like Dandelion Root, Saw Palmetto, Wild Yam, Black Cohosh Root Extract, Fenugreek Extract, Chaste berry Root, Soy Been Extract while pregnant or breastfeeding?!! What are the risks of using them? and isn't it somehow safe since these are all natural herbs no chemicals added?

Hi Eden,

Some can. I use this book:

but not all herbs are in there.

There are lots of books about the subject:

Find the one for you. You really need to find out for yourself. Doctors will help you, because herbs are deemed safer than meds in pregnancy. But not many have been trained in herbs.

DO NOT USE HERBS WHILE PREGNANT!!!

Some herbs to aid in breastfeeding for the purpose of bringing in the milk supply are OK, but absolutely no more.

Taking herbs while pregnant, in the dosages that are taken during NBE, could very easily affect the development of the child and I have seen studies that say it definitely will. Same with taking them while breast feeding. Avoid herbs until you have weened the child are are dried up for at least 6 months.
