Herbs & Prescribed Medication

#1

Hi all
I have decided to go down the route of herbs, and I've been advised to take 1 or 2 of either fenugreek, shatavari, goats rue or wild yam at 2-25g. (I have low progesterone).
I've been reading up loads on each herb to see which will be best for me as I take prescribed medication (thyroxine & tranexamic acid), and there's very conflicting reviews on whether I can take these herbs with my medication. I have been in touch with my doctor, pharmacist & herbal shops, but no one knows, they just keep telling me to ask each other.Angry
So, I'm stuck, I don't know where to go from here. I want some boobs but scared to take the herbs in case they mess with my medication and more so if they mess my hormones up.
So, what I want to know is, has anyone taken these herbs with prescribed medication (it doesn't have to be the same as mine), and did anything negative happen, or was it okay?
Thank you

I do not have the knowledge to offer advise, unlike Lotus and Elaina and others who have greater understanding of this subject.. Hope you achieve what you want. Smile

What are your meds for? Given your particular health issue could you address the problem naturally under guidance of a naturopathic doctor then integrate some nbe herbs that wont conflict as per naturopaths advice?
Its less likely plants would conflict with one another vrs medication/herbs etc.

Thank you both.

Ellacraig - Thyroxine is for underactive thryoid (which is steady/normal due to the medication, and transexamnic acid is to lessen the flow of really heavy periods).

It would be lovely to see a naturopathic doctor, but it costs a lot of money, a quick Google and it was about £40-£60 each time you see them, and I don't think you can just see them the once to ask them a question, they would want to know about your lifestyle, health, consultation, etc.

I'll have a think about this, they may be able to do something where I don't have to keep going back to them, just one consultation, or something, idk. But thanks again, this is something I will consider and maybe look into.

Id never say to drop your meds for thyroid but natural should work just as well as rx meds with less dependancy after time and ladies mantle lessens heavy periods. Id complile all your test results. Then go see the naturopath just the once. Shoot my last naturopath cost me $330 and the one prior even more.
