I have discovered that massage is one of the biggest factors in my personal growth so I've been going extra hard on it lately.
Is there such a thing as too much or can I just do it as much as I want? Is it counterproductive to overdo it?

I think that time old adage applies here.
If it feels good do it, if not STOP.
If you start to chafe or get red, take a break.
If it hurts to rub them then Stop.
All other times,, give them all the love they can take!

I think it depends on the type of massage. I expect that intense massage could be a problem if you overdo it, but I don't think there should be any issue with gentle massages. But there are no standard guidelines for the amount of massage that you can do.

I agree, there shouldn't be any issue with gentle massages. But if you massage in a rough way you might do more harm than good. In other words, it's not the length of massage that counts, it's the manner of it.
