Now I'm stalking your threads. Haha!
I found an EXCELLENT DIY hair mask and I STILL do this once a week because after the third time of doing the mask, it was like I had completely different hair, it was so healthy and bouncy & shiny!
Also note that my hair is naturally thick, big, poofy, wavy & frizzy because of the natural curl, plus I highlight it and use heat on it (straighteners & curling irons), so although my hair looks good once polished and styled, it's not the healthiest and I swear, the slightest bit of humidity and POOF! There ya have it- all of that styling undone. Using this DIY mask has made my hair go from almost looking somewhat like straw, to bendy, bouncy, shiny and humidity doesn't fluff it like it used to. Also, BioSilk is amazing for people with my type of hair. Just put some on damp hair and comb through. Can also be used sparingly on dry hair. Other things- a heat barrier spray before using tools and seriously only using a comb with wet hair and only a brush with dry hair- it actually makes a big difference within a couple of months.
If anyone has fine or thin hair, I don't recommend this mask
INGREDIENTS:
*Olive oil
*Castor oil (I linked the brand of castor oil that I use below. This can be found at health food/whole food stores like Whole Foods, Sprouts Market, Central Market, ect)
*Unflavored Knox gelatin
*Honey
Get a glass bowl (not plastic!) and put 1 part olive oil and 1 part castor oil- how much you use depends on your length & thickness.
Heat the oil in the microwave for about 25 seconds. Stir and feel, if it needs more warming, then go for it. It heats up pretty quickly.
Add 1/2 packet of unflavkred Knox gelatin and stir.
Add 1/2 Tbl of honey and stir.
What I do is section off my hair to make sure I completely cover it with this mixture. Get your hair all nice and oiled up, put a minimal amount around the roots at the top of your head and around your face. (Still put a little so the castor oil can promote a healthy scalp- and healthy hair growth, but not much)
Bring hair into a bun at the top of your head. Wrap your head with a warm towel (I throw mine in the dryer while I'm putting the oil on.)
Let sit for 20-25 minutes, then rinse out, use a TINY bit of shampoo, followed by a conditioner and comb through after the shower. I'd suggest trying this for the first time on the weekend. Once a week is optimal.
