Breast cancer risk?

#1

I had lymphoma and after chemo I had low level radiation to my chest. Most women have a 15% chance of breast cancer but I have a 19% risk.  It wasn't too bad because I was already in remission by the time I had radiation; it was more of an insurance policy.

The odd thing is that any hormonal issues I had before cancer (irregular periods and slightly hairier than I would have liked) completely disappeared afterward.  I took an injectable medication called Lupron to preserve my fertility and wonder if that did anything.

I am very interested in NBE and have purchased a Noogleberry. I also ordered PM and other things from Chiyomilk's regimen. Other than collagen, pig's placenta and "skin hair and nails" supplements to take daily, I will be using progesterone cream and fenugreek during the luteal phase and PM during the rest of the cycle. I will also massage and am considering getting gluteboost.

On the one hand, I am a little bit paranoid about growing breast tissue, but on the other I know that breast implants make mammography difficult.  The other option would be to do nothing, but after cancer I think I deserve to feel good about my body.

Has anyone done any research about the risks of NBE and breast cancer?

Edit: I had my hormones tested pre-chemo and they were fine despite the irregular periods. I just realized the Lupron releases a bunch of estrogen so maybe estrogen was good for me.

It's basically a big question mark.  No one is sure.  In theory anything with hormone-like effects should increase your risk of breast cancer.  But many studies show a decrease in breast cancer risk from many NBE herbals.  In any case herbs are certainly much safer than real hormones which would greatly increase your cancer risk; it would be tragically obvious if herbs were that bad.  It's just uncertain whether herbals increase or decrease cancer risk a little.

PM and PC are jumping straight into the NBE deep end btw.  Super strong.  Probably still not a big cancer risk but if you were looking for the NBE most likely to cause breast cancer then those two would be it.  Other herbs aren't as strong.

Lupron probably improved your hormonal issues by greatly reducing your hormones.  Including estrogen; it actually decreases it a great deal.  Herbs with hormonal like effects, especially PM, may worsen your issues again.  PC is also very strong but it might either worsen or improve them.

Massage is a pretty safe way to go and probably anti-cancer too.

IMO look into massage, nutrition and the milder herbs in my sig thread (just to be safe).  Pumping is fine too if you want, though time consuming.  If you do use PM and PC, start with very little.  1/10th to 1/5th the normal amount.  Ideally do everything else first and then continue that as you add in very little PM and PC.

Hi. How long ago were you treated?

You will haver specialists right? Would you ask them the risk of tissue expansion?

Yes there's LOTS of C talk about risk on here. Just type it in the search box and all the discussions will come up .

I do still have an oncologist. I've been in remission for just over 12 months. I will ask him when I see him for my yearly check in, probably in the next couple of months (hard to get an appointment unless in treatment). I know that breasts cancer is the thing I have to monitor most---even more than the original cancer returning.

Thank you to both of your for your input. I guess I lack a lot of knowledge on the biology of this. It would probably help to research it.

Just my humble opinion. Why rock the boat with herbs? You said your in balance now and as far as I knew so was I when I started N.b.e then as the years went by I fell out of balance. To the point I thought I was peri menopause and this was with very mild herbs, PM is a mixed bag and we've posted seen witnessed a lot of mixed results over the years both good and NOT good.

With tissue expansion the medical use it anyway when prepping for implants but I can't profess to know now.. I believed they implanted something under the skin that stretched it out not full blown pulling out existing tissue. Always why I've been on the fence with noogle but that might be an avenue to discuss with your onco.

Bobby on this board has some massage/diet links which worked out well for some members which is arOund plant based "vixxy" I think her name is. I guess while plant based isn't ideal for most I could imagine maybe it's supplying a dlverse amount of nutrients supporting hormones and body function. Maybe something you had/are considering post C diagnosis. Ps I think given the depletion of the soil worldwide now we can all benefit from a good wholefood multi vit/min supp.
Surferjoe has a list of foods to support this.

In the thread beneath this some of us girls have just been discussing perhaps starting up another chemical free, supportive nutrient anti cancer thread. Hopefully it will come together.
Also myself and a couple other members created the "non-herbal nbe" thread under frequently asked questions section (from memory) perhaps you can stick your head in there and see if anything speaks. Haven't even checked it myself in a long time and I'm kind of where you are at. Not wanting to mess up hormones etc

Estrogens are well known to increase breast cancer risk in some women, however, for example, OCP (oral contraceptive pills) have estrogens and may increase the risk only slightly. OCPs are also known to decrease the risk of ovarian cancer. Phytoestrogens in the other hand, have been measured in urine of women in women with lower prevalence of breast cancer, like Japanese women and had been found in higher levels. In animal studies, phytoestrogens were found to interfere with tumor formation in rats.

In general you should be cautious and limit your consumption, because some phytoestrogens can have a estrogen like effect, and those could potentially cause cancer.

Since this site has been up for several years, do any long-term members know of reading about anyone getting cancer because of/post-NBE??  Or have any of the avid researchers on here read about someone elsewhere getting cancer after taking phytoestrogens, herbs, or nutritional supplements (in reasonable amounts and dosages) that are typically used in NBE?  With all the negativity that can be found online, you'd think that there would be at least a few horror stories posted somewhere to warn us from doing this. Maybe there are articles like this and I just haven't come across them..

I've seen in the past 4/5 years 3 who developed lumps and had to have them cut out. One girl came back and started herbs again once it was healed and the other two disapered off the forums. I know PM was behind two of the cases . What the outcome was don't know cause they never came back.

With the high prevalence of BC anyway it could have just been random given the number of women on the forum . Truth. But I know two were quite young so..

I read in the testimonials of a lady developing BC after starting natures answer puearia. Another lady developing huge ovarian cyst after using a Greenbush.

I started up using some left over Natureday herbal blend and started getting ovary pain :s

Me personally am over experimenting with herbs. Esp after reading that members post on saw palmetto the other day. Just kinda hit home even messing with an anti estrogen can cause a spike in hormones once you stop.

Just my opinion/choice anyway.
