Hey L.
Ok its 6.30am and having my morning coffees to wake up. I will read through these links at work.
In the meantime, assuming that was/is contributing to my issues, are there any herbal solutions? Sorry if the answer is in the posts (yet to read them).

It seems another possibility.. I've used fenugreek and goats rue which lower blood sugar in the past but only using Goat's rue now. So maybe assuming I could be low the goats rue might be pushing it even lower..
I have a blood sugar test done and I photographed the results a few months back, il hunt that out and update you with the reading.
Its a shame I cant get my hands on the blood test results they did at the hospital, I woulda thought that blood sugar might have been tested, they took enough of the stuff :s I know they checked my red blood cells, haemoglobin etc to see if I had enough iron etc

Perhaps you were breathing shallow at the time, & could benefit from breathing deeper into your stomach.. Also I don't know if you take copper or zinc supplements, but these compete for the same receptors as iron so if you are getting a high intake of either of those, it could cause you to be low in iron. I'm not sure if goat's rue is high in any of these vitamins but that may be something to look into...

But I think the breathing is a big thing if you're feeling faint, I often start verging on blacking out if I stand up too quickly or get out of a bath too quickly, and what helps me is to start breathing very deeply and to hold on to whatever is nearby!

Breathing exercises in a meditative state are great for the mind. Healthy mind = healthy body.

Yes that helps as I am a shallow breather. My chiropractor has just taught me tummy breathing as I too shallow breathe.
I didn't know that about iron. Il try my iron too. I'm very slim and always had low ferritin . Thank you

LOTUS????? Where for art thou????

I have a question for you.
Me being me... Typical hypo flighty character that I am I AM slightly fearful of taking goats rue right now. I did read your links this morn re oxidising type and sure enough I'm in the fast bracket. Reading that link was me to a T right down to not being able to hold my breath for long and reduced oxygen blood levels bla bla.

soooooo can you please tell me if there are any blood SUGAR OR "pressure" associations with saw palmetto?? That you can find? You are soo good at digging up stuff I'd never find myself.

What about salt Ella? I'm a very low carbohydrate eater (<100g per day) and I started getting dizzy, weak and lethargic. I learned that low carb diets cause your body to rapidly excrete sodium. The solution is obvious. I love salt so fixing it was easy for me. When I get light headed, I know I'm not getting enough. My blood pressure, by the way, is always usually around 110/80

Thanks Kari. Yes I have in fact been told since this happened to try some Himalayan salt, even a pinch on my water. Thanks for reminding me. I have been sprinkling it on my food. Il note that though esp as I feel light headed in the mornings for some reason which freaks me out. I may put a little salt in my water I drink through the night and see if it helps Smile thank you.

I found this as far as SP

saw palmetto has been known to inhibit the blood's ability to clot. This shouldn't have any bearing on your blood pressure. However, the herb could adversely interact with blood thinners, such as warfarin, clopidogrel and even aspirin.

Don't forget the salt!

I looks like it's does raise blood pressure, possibly blood sugars from the beta-sisterols.


Saw palmetto may affect blood pressure. Caution is advised in people taking herbs or supplements that affect blood pressure.

I like the part about a study from 1898 (yes 1898)

King's American Dispensatory (1898) says of the extract:
It is also an expectorant, and controls irritation of mucous tissues. It has proved useful in irritative cough, chronic bronchial coughs, whooping-cough, laryngitis, acute and chronic, acute catarrh, asthma, tubercular laryngitis, and in the cough of phthisis pulmonalis. However, its most pronounced effects appear to be those exerted upon the urino-genital tracts of both male and female, and upon all the organs concerned in reproduction.
