Just wondering anyone here is Protein Shake intolerant.Esp on BO protein is vital but soy based ones are out of the question, therefore any other alternative.
Coz I believe I'm protein shake intolerant. I have the NOW WHEY PROTEIN and every time i drank it, it sort of gave me a migraine and i do not have migraine (well, maybe once a blue moon in a very very long time), but the shake seem to stimulate it Sad.
Am I the only one or is anyone out there having the same issue?
You can just eat greater amounts of food-based protein if protein shakes are the problem. Are you allergic/intolerant of lactose or milk? That might be why, because sometimes there is enough lactose in whey protein to cause a reaction in some people, depending on the brand. It might just be the ingredients in the protein shake you're taking, too. There is also unflavored whey protein that you can add to your cooking (soups, drinks, sauces, etc) if you think it might have to do with taste.

I hate the flavor of the protein powder I bought so I don't really use protein shakes, I keep forgetting to order some unflavored protein powder so I just try to eat as much "real" protein as I can. It adds up pretty fast if you actually count it. Meats will always have a lot of protein. For me, I just try to eat a lot of eggs, chicken, fish, and greek yogurt. When I go grocery shopping, I look at the protein content on the label and try to buy things that contain a good amount (or at least, more than other brands).
Artificial sweeteners have been known to cause headaches. Does your brand have artificial sweeteners?
I myself hate protein shakes and I am making a diet of only protein rich food which is quite difficult since I don't like fish and meat Wink But it is possible. Just use normal diet, it is cheaper too!
Nyx & CousinRose,

Thanks for the input.

I've always love dairies and also drink raw milk frequently, so far no problem. Hence I believe i'm not lactose intolerant. Anyway i checked the ingredient list , the sweetener is stevia and no mentioned of other artificial sweeteners or not Sad so we'll never know (not listed doesn't mean not present).
Since I'm Chinese my staple is usually rice meat, vege all that which i was initially concern for the lack of protein, but heck, like you guys maybe I'll just stick back to my normal diet (though in my case a more Asian one) but eat more eggs, meat stuff.

Could spirulina help? coz it's said to be rich in protein (more than beef) but it's marine source though Shy
I don't know about spirulina in regards to protein intake, but I know Philli over on the NB forum swears by it as an aid in helping her achieve her goals in NBE. But yep, I agree with the rest of the ladies, most of the time I get my protein in with a normal diet. I have mapped out my daily diet a few times and said how much protein is in each sitting and how much throughout the day. Just do that. A diet journal. Write down what you eat, figure out portion sizes and how much protein is in a portion, then figure out how many portions (servings) you're eating in one sitting, then map out your days like that. You'll be amazed how much protein you are already getting in without trying. I was amazed when I first did it. Sometimes without trying to get extra protein I would get over the amount needed for NBE.
Anastasia,

Thanks for the tip. In i believe normal diet ought to be even better coz these food proteins are more readily absorb ( I think) and less yucky Big Grin coz it's not so much processed.

There certainly are alot of Protein Shakes out there since I looked 8 years, when doing BO. I used to take whey protein too, but I didn't really like the way they taste.

About a year ago, I looked into this for my now DH, who is dairy intolerant, and needs serious protein for body building. I found one called Plant Fusion, which is Vegan, no dairy or animal products. He really likes it, and can feel a difference in his muscles when he uses this one. He really hated the soy ones, and didn't feel they were as good.

I just ordered some more, because I've been using it for my new boob regimen, and it feels like it makes a difference for me! I just returned to NB after 1 year and am thinking about trying BB, so would up my usage a bit with this one. It tastes pretty good and comes in chocolate, vanilla, unflavored and a new chocolate raspberry. we have all the flavors. my favorite way to prepare the chocolate one is:

makes one serving in a 24 oz container

put 12 oz cold rice milk in a shake container
add 2 tablespoon of chocolate syrup and one scoop of protein
shake until dissolved
pour in ice cold carbonated mineral water/club soda to taste (i use about 6-12 oz)
To me it tastes alot like an old fashioned New York egg cream (which does not have an egg LOL)

It's pretty expensive (I think all the good ones that are whey also are) and I saw a few that were similar when I bought this one, all based on Pea Powder.

HTH
There are many protein shakes which are egg and soy protein derived, so no lactose. You can also get your protein from sources other than shakes, such as nuts, beans, and meats. You can also supplement amino acids instead of proteins which may can reduce muscle soreness.

90 Day Challenge
There is also unflavored whey protein that you can add to your cooking (soups, drinks, sauces, etc) if you think it might have to do with taste.
