I don't understand about magnets. What is a pole on a magnet?

The poles of a magnet are the ends of the core of the magnet, where the lines of force emerge. An experiment with iron filings shows the lines of force, by putting a sheet of paper over the magnet and sprinkling fine iron filings. This is an easy thing to do at home. For a bar magnet the poles will be at opposite ends. If you have two such magnets you can experiment and find that like poles repel, opposite poles attract.

I don't understand this. What does positive and negative mean on a magnet? I thought magnets had two poles, north and south. Is this the same as positive and negative or not? And how do you find which is which? Do you just stand facing north and see which way the magnet points and that is north?

Yes the two poles of a magnet are the same as negative and positive. It saeems that the different poles have different magnetic fields, either negative or positive, and the different fields affect the body in different ways. So negative and positive is just the same thing as talking about north and south.

I don't know if it's science or not, but in magnet therapy the two poles of a magnet are considered to have different effects, with one pole regarded as negative and the other pole regarded as positive.

In short it's the same thing. Postive and negative is just another way of labelling the two poles.

Positive is supposed to enlarge the breasts while the negative is said to have the effect of disolving fat and making it water soluble so it passes out the body through urine.
