Soybeans is known as early as 11th century BC in northern China, where they were among the first crops grown by man. Ancient Chinese honored soybeans as one of the five sacred grains essential to the existence of Chinese civilization, and considered the soybean both a food and a medicine. Soon rest of the world would discover its virtues. By first century AD, soybeans spread to central and southern China and Korea. In the 7th century, soybeans go to Japan, and then to Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Nepal and India. Even in its early history, soybean was highly regarded and made many foods, most important were miso, tempeh, and tofu. Reputation for soybean use as medicine also spread widely at same time. In 17th century European visitors became aware of celebrated soybeans and was grown in Europe by 18th century.

~SOY ISOFLAVONES~Dr. James Duke, author of the book "The Green Pharmacy" and former herbal researcher with the FDA had this to say about soy; "Soybeans, like most, if not all, commonly eaten beans, contain several compounds called phytoestrogens. These compounds mimic the effect of the body's own estrogen, but with a milder punch than the real hormone. Since many breast tumors seem to need the hormone estrogen to grow, some speculate that phytoestrogens might inhibit tumor growth" Dr. Duke also comments, "Soybeans also are touted to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, when a woman's natural production of estrogen slows down, and, "one cup of soybeans contains about the same amount of phytoestrogens as one tablet of Premarin, the much stronger synthetic estrogen that is often prescribed in hormone replacement therapy." These phyto-estrogens are among those that contribute to the breast enhancing effects. Soy Isoflavones are a wonderful addition for breast enhancment and general breast health.

Soy Isoflavens- soy can lower thyroid output/production, leading to lowered temps, which is not good for BE.

I think it means that Soy can lower thyroid hormone output which would not be helpful. However, many breast enhancement programs use soy including some of the more successful cases. I notice it used a lot and in the most successful acses, so overall it must be helpful to breast enhancement actually.

I was doing NBE for 6 months and noticed many Hypothyroid symptoms, I was taking soy in addition to other estrogenic herbs and realized I have a Hypothyroid condition from test results dating back to right before I started NBE in May 07. I gained about an inch in the bust but noticed no more growth plus more hypo thyroid symptoms.
If my doctor had told I was out of "normal range" on my tsh test like he should have( I have called many times requesting to talk to him about my results and nothing! I had to literally go down and get a copy my self), I would have not started NBE. I was furious when I found out this past Thursday and still a bit. He said I don't need thyroid medication, I disagree. I am losing a small amount of my hair , constipated, headaches here and there for no reason etc.
Warning to those who are overweight/underweight who can't gain or loose an ounce, CHECK YOUR THYROID,
I AM Hypo and underweight. I truly believe those skinny chicks that have little or no results like me, have a thyroid conditon, Your T4,T3 production plays a very important role for growth. and if you are underweight you are not absorbing anything! your liver stops producing enzymes and you need those to break down fats, protiens, carbs to re-absorb in the body and grow healthy breast tissue/fat deposition. I've been doing heavy research and could write a damn book,
Lack of enzymes cause constipation ladies!
I say no to soy for me- its too powerful and begins to take away what your thyroid is supposed to do.
I will start NBE in 3-6months depending on my new test results and how I feel. and work on getting those mercury fillings out too.( they deplete needed minerals for your thyroid to convert them in to t4/ hormones)

This is not true, soy protein shakes and soy are supposed to be good for breast enhancement. However, after saying that we all know that one thing doesnt work for everyone in this forum. If you already have a thyroid situation or are already predisposed to it then its a possibility that it can give you all the thyroid symptoms you are having. For the lady who is saying she is having all those symptoms, it is almost technically impossible for soy to create such a drastic effect, it is probably that you lack iodine, or maybe you use non-iodine salt so you are having a deficiency for this, because to my opinion that is one of the major causes that will affect your thyroid.

If soy, had all those negative effects there will be numerous studies about it, and most vegetarians and asians that eat tofu will be having all sorts of thyroid problems. That said, everyone reacts differently to things but I honestly think that if soy has any effect at all on lowering body temp, its nothing that drastic to actually affect the extent of your growth.

Of course, its just that my doctor said my TSH levels where normal at 6.24!(Very Hypo) had I known how dangerous that little # was, I would have never approach NBE. I agree with you (above) however, just because it is derived from plants doesn't mean it won't have such effect on the body. Soy is very powerful and helpful for those who have a well functioning thyroid (which most Asian cultures do, plus they also have high intakes of iodine compared to most American diets which is why they can do well with soy and not develope hypothyroid conditions).
I feel much better now that I have dropped the soy. for the rest of you ladies, just be cautious and listen to your body, it knows what it needs,

I've heard about soy being bad, so I thought I'd have another search on the web to get some more info and came up with a couple of interesting sites offering an alternative point of view to what we've been told about the "wonders" of soy:

Obviously the phyto oestrogens found in other natural sources are beneficial, but I think it's just the ones in soy we have to watch out for. It's got me thinking anyway! don't eat much soy now I'm not a veggie anymore but I might cut down on the soy sauce when I'm having a chinese, just in case it is true.

How many mg's of soy were you taking a day? I plan on using Soya in my NBE routine, along with sea kelp for iodine. I am still a little nervous about it though. Do you think 600mg would be ok? I am 5'4", 115 lbs, and have a normal functioning thyroid.
