Is it true that chocolate is bad if you're doing NBE?

Yes, eat less sugar. Sugar changes estrogen into testosterone.

Hi JustPeachy,

Here is something regarding sugar's effect on the body:

"Glucose and fructose are metabolized in the liver. When there’s too much sugar in the diet, the liver converts it to lipid. Using a mouse model and human liver cell cultures, the scientists discovered that the increased production of lipid shut down a gene called SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), reducing the amount of SHBG protein in the blood. SHBG protein plays a key role in controlling the amount of testosterone and estrogen that’s available throughout the body. If there’s less SHBG protein, then more testosterone and estrogen will be released throughout the body, which is associated with an increased risk of acne, infertility, polycystic ovaries, and uterine cancer in overweight women. Abnormal amounts of SHBG also disturb the delicate balance between estrogen and testosterone, which is associated with the development of cardiovascular disease, especially in women."

This was taken from this link: http://www.dietdetective.com/content/view/2857/82/

So it is not as simple as 'sugar turns estrogen into testosterone' but rather a more complicated 'sugar increases the release of both estrogen and testosterone above what is healthy for the body'.

Best wishes,

i think those teenage girls with big boobs are already fat or atleast chubby Sad
from F2F book, "Cut back on the carbs. As it turns out, carbinduced
insulin is bad for your breasts in two
ways: it increases testosterone and decreases
growth hormone. That’s because somatostatin -
the chemical that turns off growth hormone - is
triggered by low blood sugar. As you now know,
high insulin levels lead to low blood sugar levels."

Hi Wendy,

Well, chocolate in large amounts is bad for anyone. And yes, sometimes I see slender girls with huge breasts, my sister in law is one. She, however, wears a bra that's too big for her and stuffs it. Sometimes, too, you can still be thin and have a high body-fat percentage.
I have been reading that fat stores on women have the ability to convert testosterone to estrogen.
Not only that, but I am sure you will find these 'busty' girls will grow into their boobs, meaning their bum, stomach and thighs will fill out to match.
You cannot walk around stuffing macdonalds, chocolate, and other junk into your body without it having some negative effect.

I think that the diet for NBE is one that encourages you to make sure you body is functioning at it's optimal levels. NBE has certainly made me change my bad habits, and I feel a lot better for it. I think if you want to treat yourself, that is absolutely fine.

But, if you want to model your NBE routine on what busty teenage girls are eating, then that is up to you - that is what makes everyones routine so unique. We all decide for ourselves what we think is best for our body-chemistry. It is great that you are asking questions, but also be prepared to put in the effort to research it. Google can even be a great resource for this.

Hope this helps you a little,
Cheers!

How bad is sugar really while being on a NBE Routine? If heard high blood sugar increases testosteron? Is this true and should I quit eating sugar while doing NBE?

You know it really is a matter of degree. Having sugar in your tea is not a big deal. Drinking sodas with bunches of high fructose corn syrup... not so good.

If you have a diet that is mostly processed foods (breads, pasta, juices, etc) then any additional sugar is going to be a negative influence NBE wise. If your diet is whole foods (grains, vegetables and fruit) you can handle more sugar without if affecting testosterone levels and lowering growth hormone.

One important note about Xylitol - do not let your pets have any of it. It can kill them. I recently read a report about a dog that got into a packet of gum with xylitol and that was it for the pooch (can't remember exactly the method of toxicity but I believe it did in the dogs kidneys).

thats odd
May 21 2008, 8:10 PM

Xylitol is sugar derived from fruit,RIGHT?

How would that kill a dog?

I am a lil freaked out now because i converted over to this instead of sugar?

Amy,
Dogs physiology differs from human physiology in many ways. For example, dogs will die if they eat too much chocolate (the amount varies on the size of the dog and the darkness of the chocolate) -we may talk about death by chocolate, but for dogs it is unfortunately true.

Here is an article about xylitol poisoning in dogs:

http://www.studiopet.com/xylitol.html

So, even though xylitol is not poisonous to humans - it is deadly poison to dogs (and I would also assume cats as well).

I stopped adding shuggar to my coffee, teas and stuff. But I'll still have an occasinal sweet. The important thing is that you don't rise your glucose levels suddenly and a lot, like by eating a whole meal made from only high glycemic indes food and that you don't eat a lot of sweets at once. You may still eat sweets sometime, but only a small ammount at once.

if you use organic honey you should be okay, organic honey is a little more expensive, but its worth it, trust me, you can get many different kinds of honey, becuase they make them with different flowers with different shades and tastes. if you buy organic, i have wildflower honey, and its awsome, and really strong in flavor, i added like four or five tablespoons to large juicejug full of soy milk that i had made, WOW way to much, usually you have to add a lot, but organic honey is POTENT! lol, i love it!

i agree sugar is terrible for you, becuase its been processed, if you had sugar cane, it would be different, but no body does. lol.

YeaySmile ok thenSmile That's no prob we always use natural honey straight from the buzzing bee Smile true its expensive... but I wouldn't touch anything else really. *phew* ok so I'll keep using the honey true its v potent you need just over half a tsp to sweeten ur tea (anymore than that &u wouldn't taste the tea anymore!) Smile yummySmile anyways that's a relief although I'm still going to have 2 cut down on the sweeties :S *sigh* Thanks for the help! Smile dudina

Suction suction suction girls - I eat rubbish and have had good results, otherwise if you suspect any sort of hormonal problem get it checked because you may benefit from metformin which will control your sugar anyway.

I saw a mention of testosterone and sugar. Does too much processed sugar really have an effect on testosterone levels? What is the science behind that?

I'm sure that sugar LOWERS testosterone.
