After discussing the copyright issue with our Admin Eve, The following is her understanding of the rules which I totally agree with:

"If someone posts a video on YouTube which is protected by copyright, it is the person who posts the video that has breached the copyright, not those watching the video or linking to it.

But if someone downloads a copy of a video from YouTube which is protected by copyright then by downloading they are in breach of copyright law. That's how I understand it."
