Ladies, I found this bra measurement online and thought I would share it with you (for those of you who have not seen it, at least). I have used all of the previously listed measurement methods and nothing has worked for me--- either I would get a different measurement every time or the measurements just would never match up to what bra size I actually fit. Either way, none of them were accurate for me. But this one seems to be more precise because it eliminates the possibility or error caused by the air gap between the breasts.

I hope this helps!!!
Method of Measuring
And this one additionally shows the table for easy conversions....You will have to scroll down a bit.
Method and Table
Neither link worked for me and the www address lines were odd, too. One was to a .gov site and the other was for breast implants.
Sounds like spam to me.
What sounds like spam? Well thanks for pointing out that I don't know how to attach a link.... I will try again... I am new to this site, btw. Thanks for the welcome by suggesting I'm a spam! lol
And yes, the first website is a government website because it is a patented method of measurement, believe it or not. And the second website IS a breast implant website on which I found the measurement guide. This is why I mentioned that you would need to scroll down a bit to find the measurement chart and info...

I will try again. Hopefully it will work this time...
This is the first:

As you can see, I was still not able to figure it out Huh Something is just not working right. So I just placed the direct link in the text so it should work if you copy and paste it into your URL bar.
Sorry about that Dodgy I hope it works for you this time!
They did.

Thank you.
The links are working for me now as well...

You'll have to pardon JTX... We do get an awful lot of spam around here...

EDIT: Though I do have to disagree with the usefulness of this... it's still going with that ridiculous +4/5 inches band size nonsense. Size 34 bands slip around on me. Size 36 would just fall straight off. And I measure 32" in chest circumference. And I wear a size 32 band.

And the latter part seems to be a little too much... By that system I should be wearing a B cup, but I definitely don't even completely fill my present A cups yet...

Sorry... but maybe this works for other people... but it doesn't seem at all reliable for me.
You're welcome, JTX!

It's ok, now at least I have an idea of how much I will be needing to keep an eye out for spam messages Wink

As for why I posted it, again I posted it because all the other methods use the over the bust measurements and around the bust, neither of which work for me. Obviously it works for many, since that is all I have seen on this site. I posted this for those who, like me, the around the bust and over the bust chest measurements just don't work since there is a lot of variables in placement (for above the bust I may place it too high or too low in either the front or the back, dramatically changing the results, and the over the bust measurement varies for me because the space between the breast is included and that varies depending on how secure the measurement tape is). It may even just have to do with experience (or, lack of experience in my case!), which is why the more precise measurement that I just found is all that has worked for me. I found it to be the easiest to use, and the most precise, and thought it would help those who were in my same situation.

That is really interesting AbiDrew that your under the bust measurement is the same as your band measurement!! I measure at 30" under my bust and I wear the 34" band. You are measuring UNDER your chest, where your bra band would be, right? Would you mind if I asked what is your above the bust measurement? Also, by chance, do you fasten your bra hooks on the inner-most eye of the strap? What method of measurement, if any, do you find to have worked the best for you?

Sorry that what I found does not help you! Sad And forgive me for the questions... I get a long way in my researching until someone shows me how much learning I still have yet to do! I know that bra measurements are a little complex, and that not every method works for everyone, but since band width is not affected by bust size, I thought it was pretty straight forward. I have never thought it was possible for someone to wear a band width that is the same measurement as their under bust measurement.

And of course, since your under the bust measurement and band measurement does not agree with this method, of course the chart will not work for you in determining cup size, since cup size is affected by the band measurement and under the bust measurement Wink so that goes without saying!

Thanks for your input... hopefully you will find something that works for you soon! Big Grin

Yeah... I guess I can sort of understand this, it took me quite a while to be able to do my measuring reliably... I guess I can understand some people just never getting it at all.

Yep, I am very definitely measuring where I wear my band! I'm actually wearing El Cheapo Wal-Mart bras atm, and therefore find I have to fasten them on the middle hook. As they wear out (entirely too quickly!) I eventually have to fasten them on the inner-most before eventually they are just too worn out to keep wearing. When I had opportunity to try on slightly more expensive bras I could wear them on the outermost hook.

Unfortunately, I am still looking for a reliable way to determine my bra size without resorting to just trying bras on at mostly random!

Anyways, my full measurements as of the last time I took them:

Code:
Current Sizes:
     37" above bust
     37.5" over bust
     32" under bust
     29" waist
     31" hip "wings"
     36.5" hips

Hehe... It does kinda figure! I'm not the only girl on these boards btw who has found her under-bust to be her band size... And as far as I'm aware, for those of us who find this to be true, there has not yet proven to be a reliable way to determine bra size.

Personally, I have a sneaking suspicion that when my bust measurement gets to be 6" more than my underbust I'll be a full A. In other words, 32" under and 38" across. I don't know how that will stack up with increasing cup sizes, but I do think it'll likely be less per cup after I reach that first full cup.

Every single calculator I find that gets the band size right wants to put me in a cup size that's waaaaay too big!

I think my problem is my extremely broad shoulders. The other girls with this same problem also have extremely broad shoulders. I was kinda hoping since this system avoids the whole shoulder thing entirely it'd be better... And anyways. It is reporting basically the same thing as the other calculators that say to add 4/5. So the problem is not in my measuring under either method... It's in the method and that the methods just don't fit my body proportions.

What I think? If I go with the '36" band' chart, ignore the suggested band size and keep with my 32"s, but follow the breast measuring, I might actually get an accurate measurement... I measure 7" right now that way, which fits with the fact that I'm not even close to filling an A cup.

Meh. I've given up and am just going to go with whatever feels most comfortable and screw the stupid sizing crap. At this point my cup size can only go up and my band size should mostly stay the same anyways! The hardest part is over! Big Grin
I've tried this before but when your cup size is in the multiple A's it's usually impossible to tell where your boobs begin and end. They just smoothly blend out into the ribcage without clearly defined edges. This would probably still be the ideal measuring method for someone with large enough boobs. I wish there was one method that would work for everyone Sad
There is not one single way to measure for bras as there is no single industry standard for bra manufacturing and sizing. From my understanding, even getting measured by professional bra fitters will only work for some bra companies, not all.

Trial and error here we go...Dodgy

Wasn't even gonna try to read the first link. xD But the chart on the second link looked like a good way to measure the breast. However, as jiberish said, there is no single method of bra measuring.

My breasts measure just under 8" each, and with the 32 band I wear, that would make me a 32C. Not at all close. Because of my breast shape, I'm actually almost a 32E. :/ WAAAYYYYY off! Haha! 32DD bras give me quadraboob, there is no way I would ever fit into something 3 sizes down!

Maybe that's why women with implants look so much larger than the rest of us, because of the way they measure, they're squeezing into the wrong bra size.

BTW, is it just me, or did that woman in the pictures on that implant page have REEEAAAALLLYYY bad implants? I would hate to have expensive plastic surgery and come out looking like that!
