It's somewhat subjective to say. There have been various studies and clinicals done but often small scale.
If your mind is willing to let the trance happen it can work.
I'm sure someone can provide a better, more explanatory response but that's the very, very basics.

You can only be successful with this method if you have an open mind. Doubt and disbelief will block your minds ability to accept and suggestions. Hypnosis is all about control over the mind, so clear your head of any doubts you may have before trying hypnosis.
