It's a pity too, because that would have made it soooo much easier!

I always clasp the busk together and make sure my corset's sitting properly on my body. Then, I start at the top, and pull the second set of laces tight. After that, I drop down two sets of laces, and tighten those. Then, I drop down to the top lace in the middle and tighten that. Then, I work from the bottom to the middle in the same fashion. When I pull the laces, I pull them straight back; I've found this to be easier for me, but it may be different for different people or different corsets. Sometimes I'll go up and down a few times to make sure it's tight enough (or not too tight, sometimes I get ambitious, haha!), but doing it this way, I usually get it right the right time. :3 Then, when I'm done, I grab both of the middle cords and wrap them once around my hands and pull them out to the side to tighten it even more.

Because of the way I do it, I usually need a mirror just to double-check that I'm pulling the right strings (I get overwhelmed with the simplest things sometimes). But from everything I've tried, this is the best way I've found to lace myself.

I've been sick, so I haven't been wearing my corset too often. I'm having trouble breathing right now even without the corset, so with the corset on, I'll be sitting around hyperventilating just to try to catch my breath. =__= Going to e-mail Corset-Story sometime soon, then hopefully making a purchase!

Misty, you said you buy from Corset-Story? How have your corsets held up so far? I want my next one to be very reliable, so I can keep lacing down over the next year or so.

I have bought 3 corsets from Corset-Story. All three were from their "waist-training" line. They are all holding up very well (and I have *really* pulled them tight).
A quick question for all you corset gurus!

Let me introduce myself. I am pretty new to these boards and to NBE and have been looking for a good way to bring my waist down to the size it used to be (you know...) and then Doll introduced me to the idea of corseting (thanks, Doll!). Since then, I have been doing my research, looking around, and I REALLLLLLY like the idea of this! It is exactly what I have been looking for, so I will be joining the corset-club, if you don't mind Blush I bought myself the Three-Month Waist Training Plan from Romantasy, to serve as some extra support and guidance as I start off for my first three months.

I have narrowed down my options to one corset in particular from Corset-Story. I absolutely love it so far, but I want to make sure it is everything I need it to be before I buy it. It is 13" long. The description for the corset says that it is fine as long as I am 5'4" (I'm 5'5" so I'm in the clear), but I read somewhere on Romantasy about how the length of the corset can actually constrict your fanny if the corset is long enough, so to pay attention to the length. A huge goal of mine is to get my butt 1) bigger and 2) more lifted, so if this corset constricts any part of my buttocks I will be very paranoid while wearing it and upset. Silly, I know, but such are my priorities!

So, my question to you corset-gurus are:

Is the length measurement taken from the back, or from the front?
Perhaps a silly question, but the answer to this should probably determine if I go through with purchasing this one particular corset, or not.

Thanks for your help, ladies!

Timarie,

The length is measured from the front. I have one of their 13" corsets (I am 5'10") and it works very well for me. Good luck!

Misty

I suppose it depends on how long your torso is compared to your legs... I'm 5'4" (and a half Dodgy ) and my TT corsets are 12" in the front and are STILL slightly long! They fit "OK", but there's definitely some pressing down on my groin and buttocks.

These are the absolutely shortest off-the-rack's I've been able to find, though... To get anything shorter we'd need to send in our measurements to a corsettier and get custom corsets!

Good luck! I do hope you can get what you're after. BTW... Linky if you want to change your mind to buy a TT corset instead:

I just got done with my first true long-term wearing (about 6 hours today before I ended up taking it off in the ladies!) and so far I have got to say I LOVE my corsets from TT!

The lacing can be a little bit annoying to lace up, the vid that Misty put up, yeah, that way doesn't work with TT's laces. You've gotta pull in like 6 different places to get it snug.

Corset-Story carries several 10-1/2" corsets in their waist-training line. I have this one:

http://www.corset-story.com/waist-traini...1-azx.html

But I actually feel it's too short for me. My wife has used it (she's 5'0") and it works for her OK. In looking at my long one I realize I actually have a 14" one:

http://www.corset-story.com/waist-traini...-6887.html

(Although mine is cream colored... they don't seem to have that one in stock any longer). That's the one I demonstrated in the YouTube video. For a man to use it, be prepared to "tuck" or sitting down can be painful!

Oh, and Abi, if you look at the pictures for the short one you can see the cord and how it fits through the grommets. How does it compare to the TT corsets?

OH! So they do! Well call me blind! They do cost a fair penny more though.

Uhm. As for being prepared to tuck... I'm ALWAYS tucked. And the sooner I can get rid of the offending appendages the better. (Well, not when I'm sleeping, or lounging around, but then I'm not usually really wearing much at all and I'm certainly not sitting down!)

And the lace.... Yeah. It's just a different shape! TT laces are waaay flatter and wider.

Welcome to the world of corsets! Haha! Glad to have you on board, girl!

Honestly, it's bull that they could even say that about the corset length. I'm 5'4 1/2" (apparently I shrunk some), and the corset I bought (not sure the length) is VERY tall on me. It digs into my hips and pushes my breasts up a good bit at the same time. :/ Meanwhile, my friend who is 4'11 1/2" has a LONGER torso than me, and the corset is actually a little short on her! (She's mostly torso, I'm mostly legs.)
So your best bet is to measure yourself just to be sure. Because there's no way they can assume everyone's torso is the same at certain heights. Before corsetting, my scoliosis had made my torso so short I almost couldn't even wear the corset at all (the first few wears, it came up to my nipples!).

Also, about it "constricting your fanny", yes it definitely can, but not in the way you'd think. Mine is longer in the back, so it definitely comes down to far. But it doesn't cover and shrink my butt; rather, it just digs into the top of it (this has actually REALLY hurt me at times if I sit back too fast). I've got a pretty high up butt, and it doesn't confine it to make it smaller at all, so in that aspect it's fine. But if you can, definitely try to find something that won't dig into the top of your butt too far. It's...a very unique kind of pain...I think I pinched a nerve one time...

@misty
Thanks, glad to hear from someone who's already bought from them! Makes me feel more confident about choosing from their site. :3

Congrats Abi, you'll be tightlacing in no time! Haha!
UGH THIS IS SO EFFING CUTE I NEED ONE!!!

If all dresses were actually corsets with matching skirts, I'd wear them all the time. I hardly ever wear my dresses because they're such a poor fit on my awkward body. =_= BUT THIS...THIS COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING.

Agree! I dunno why I didn't think to explain it that way... I blame the estrogens! Giggle.

Somehow I missed the part about exactly what she was worried about with the fanny constriction: Yeah. It's a digging in, not a pressing against. And I imagine that if my corset was any longer it WOULD be painful as Doll said. Instead, it's just slightly uncomfortable in all but the most rigid sitting position. Which I imagine is as-intended! After all, one of the BIGGEST reasons women used to wear corsets was to force them into proper posture.

Haha. Yeah. Misty almost makes me wish I'd spent the extra dime and went with Corset-Story instead. TT IS nice though. Mostly it's just the laces that are annoying. IMO, they should just change their laces to less of a wide-flat style to something more like Corset-Story's and they'd be awesomesauce.

That's the plan! Big Grin

I wore my floral pattern corset yesterday, so I'll be wearing the ruffled lace one today (I posted one minute past midnight, so the day changed, haha!). Gotta try to break em in evenly!
