Hops~

I am living in SOuth East Asia region where herbalists are rare and shops are very limited. We do not have various herbs to choose from , and apart from herbs, lotsa other things are limited in varieties as well.
I am wondering if Hops is a chinese herb or western herb. Can anyone let me know if it has a"chinese" herb name? Or is there any other common names for hops?
I hope from the additional info from u guys, i am able to source better from any outlets which sell herbs.

I think Hops in Chinese is Pi jiu hua.
Check out http://www.vortexhealth.net/hops.html It says there that China is one of the big Hops growing countries, although it seems that it didn't come from China originally.

They are only native species in N.America and Europe....they were spread around through trade routes....China was one of the first and earliest traders with the N.Europeans...they intermarried and had socialized to some degrees in certain places.
Recall those red headed caucasian people they found well done graves of in Asia,I believe mongolia or S.China.They have evidence that they had settlements and such....
Hops(Humulus lupulus) are in the Cannabaceae family....Hemp Plants included....
They have a lot of interesting phytochemicals,and have a lot of properties.

I'm in Ireland and I can't find hops anywhere. I expected it to be a commonly found herb?

There must be heaps of hops in Ireland, otherwise how could you make all that Guinness !!
It should be easy to find. I'm from the UK but I'm living in the US at the moment and I can buy hops in my local health food store.
If you can't find it, someone posted a link above for Vortex Health in the UK. It should be easy for you to get an order from the UK to Ireland.

Aoife, try Holland & Barrett, they do an anti stress tablet that is mainly hops. I take them 3 times a day along with other herbs.
