Full Version: I suddenly developed atopic eczema. Could it be because of one of my herbs?

Mint tea was the most recent addition to my program. The mint tea I'm drinking is not actually pure mint. It's a blend of spearmint, regular mint, rose hips, hibiscus, and lemon peel, in that order. I have never had a reaction to any of those ingredients before. I've also never had eczema before, but it does run in my family. Right now I have active outbreaks on my foot, tailbone, and eyebrow. It's the outbreak near my eye that scares the hell out of me.

Based on what I've read, an outbreak of atopic eczema can be "encouraged" by an active allergy, like hay fever, but it is not, in itself, an allergic reaction. (Am I understanding that properly?) A person has to have an underlying susceptibility, and the eczema can be brought on by plenty of things other than allergies. Right now there are no sure signs that I'm allergic to anything in the mint tea. I feel absolutely fine when I drink it. Is it possible I'm becoming sensitized to something in the tea, without developing a full blown allergy?

Women who have eczema apparently sometimes only get outbreaks (or only get severe outbreaks) during certain parts of their cycle. I think it might be possible that the eczema is being caused by the change in my hormones, rather than the herbs themselves.

Of course, it could also just be a coincidence. It just seems like a very strange coincidence that I would get my first ever eczema outbreak after starting mint tea.
