Hi all,

I plan on adding wild yam to my regimen. My question is could I buy the extract and add to my lotion instead of buying a cream, if not what cream do you use or recommend.. I am thinking of ordering Natures precise cream but would like to order the extract and add that to lotion or cream.. also was wondering (this may be an Isabelle questionShy) I am also wanting to add WY in pill form too, question is..would it only be taken durning the high progesterone time and why do some take the pill form and cream would that be an overload and why do some take the pill form the whole cycle.. Another question and this may be a dumb one but what makes WY and FG different because I read that they both contain diosgenin or did I read that wrong..Isabelle if your reading this which you probably are what exactly does WY block..I read some other thread it blocks something that starts with 16-..I know you know what I am referring to..is this bad or good and what else is good or bad about WY..
Wild Yam (5α reductase inhibitor) blocks testosterone from becoming DHT. Instead, the testosterone is converted into estrogen.
Fenugreek induces prolactin (makes you swell) and I thinkkkk is phytoestrogenic?? (Not sure about that one).

Wild Yam does not contain phytoestrogens, but it helps your body make more of them.

Not really sure about when is a good time to take Wild Yam of any kind. From what I understand, as long as progesterone is higher than estrogen during luteal phase, wild yam is safe to take at any point, but I could be wrong about that one. Definitely confirm that with Isabelle.

As far as cream vs pill, I truly have no idea.
Woww Susan,

This is tough to explain in a short post. This is where I explained that wild yam blocks part of the metabolism of estrone:

Because of this, it increases the natural estrone level some. I'm not sure if it increases estradiol because of this too.

Wild yam contains β-sitosterol too. That is and anti-androgen.

Wild yam contains diosgenin, so it increases progesterone and prolactin.

Because it increases everything, some people take it all month. Because it does not contain phyto-estrogens or phyto-progestins, taking too much is not likely.

I don't know which of the above actions of wild yam involve digestion. So I don't know if cream or pills is better.

Fenugreek is different. It contains diosgenin too, but as far as I know, it doesn't block part of the metabolism of estrone, and it doesn't contain β-sitosterol. It does contain a tiny amount of isoflavones, which is why many people list it as a phyto-estrogen, but its phyto-estrogen activity is negligible. Finally, fenugreek releases insulin and improves insulin sensitivity.
