Thyroid and temperature confuses me!

Can someone please post the correct information here about the thyroid function and it's connection to body temperature and weight? I have under-fuction of my thyroid which causes slow metabolism and a tendency to gain weight easily. I need to find out what's beneficial for me concerning Bovine Ovary.

This is how I understand it:

Low thyroid function = low metabolism = overweight
High thyroid function = high metabolism = underweight

Who gets the low temp? Is it those who are a bit underweight?
If so, how does Kelp/Iodine help them? Iodine speeds up the thyroid function and the metabolism. Wouldn't that make them even more underweight and less prone to store fat in the breasts, even if it raises the body temperature? I just don't understand any of this.

I dont think that high metabolism means high thyroid function..only people who have low temperature means that their thyroid isn't functioning properly.so iodine helps with that or L-tyrosine...it is not that overweight people or undeweight ones are the ones with thyroid problems...That is what i know..Good luck..kelp won't cause any sort of weight gain..

Yes pink and fluffy, you are right about the low thyroid function causing a slow metabolism and a high thyroid function causing a fast metabolism. Here is some basic info on thyroids:

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid

The thyroid controls how quickly the body burns energy, makes proteins and how sensitive the body should be to other hormones. The thyroid does this by producing thyroid hormones, principally thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones regulate the rate of metabolism and affect the growth and rate of function of many other systems in the body.

So I was just reading on Cyd's blogspot about temperatures. She said they should be 98.2-98.6 at your *waking temperature*, aka basal--which I already monitor daily for family planning purposes. Are you kidding me? Is this right? The only time my temp was that high was in my luteal phase before herbs (herbs, for some reason, made me run cooler).

So which is it: you actually test your temperature before moving out of bed, or you test your active temperature later in the day? If it's the first, is the kelp and stuff going to raise it a whole lot? Cause it'd have to be a whole degree for me. Then there's the fact that the later I sleep the higher my waking temperature is--how does this come into play? (I try to always take it at 6:30, but of course sometimes I have to do it earlier or later and in that case I add or subtract a tenth of a degree for every half hour's difference respectively)

Someone please help my poor brain know what to do! :-)

Hi.I know the temperature thing can be very confusing. You are supposed to take it before getting out of bed.But i think the most important thing is that it should be high when u take the pill.Just my personal thought.Kelp helps yes!I take it.First i took 1 pill, 2 times a day, equal to 450mcg,then i added 1 extra and since then my temperature is never low.So don't worry, you can get urs up too.If not you can add LT..It is what most girls do here.Good luck

Temp's can be very confusing because the more I investigate about it, the more confused I get! Many things can lead to low temp not just your thyroid but low iron levels, low blood sugar, parasites, adrenal function, lack of sleep... pretty much anything! I always take my temp before getting out of bed.

Sandy, Do you only take kelp for your temp? Or do you take L-T with it?

Does anyone know how much iodine is safe to take??

You said that you think as long as your temp is high when you take the pills that it should be ok....so let's say my temp is 97.3 before I get out of bed, but 98.3 after I've been up at which point I take my first pill....is that ok? Sorry to be so confused! :-)

Thanks to everyone else for their answers as well!

Just a word of advice... A lot of people with normal thyroid function have naturally low temperature. To constantly add extra iodine (kelp) to the system can actually DAMAGE the thyroid if it isn't under-active. I hope you know what you are doing to yourselves or you might end up on a life long medication.

Hi Itty.Yes that is what I believe..Low temp disactivates BO(nevertheless Buffee I thin never got her temp high enough and grew) So when u take ur pill when ur temp is high enough that would be Okay..

And concerning the iodine,i asked a person who is knowlegable and she told me that iodine is useful as long as we dont overdose it and take too much. After all we also consume iodine in our food when we eat fish....So when we take Kelp in a moderate way, nothing bad would happen.Good luck

And Itty, plz keep ur chin up,it will work.ah by the way, what are u taking for ur temp?LT and kelp?Or nothing yet?Sorry if u mentioned it earlier but i tend to forget a lot..

L-tyrosine is the other product to take besides kelp.
Cyd said to take either don't need both.
Or if wanted can take both, won't hurt as long as it's low dosage and don't over do.

Thanks for all your help girls....to answer your question, I haven't taken anything yet. All I'm doing right now is a week long milk thistle cleanse and then will go from there. Y'all are helping so much in my research though---THANK YOU! :-)

Ladies, I don't know what it means, but my first bottle of Kelp said not for long term use - so don't take it forever. Hopefully you will not need it after a while, I didn't and my temp was really low in the beginning.
