Full Version: Preventing nipple and aerola growth while pumping

I had read online that you can use bandaids or tape over the nipple to prevent growth but I also want to prevent aerola growth. I had been using large bandaids/plasters over my nipples when I pump but they don't stick well with oil on my skin. So far it doesn't look like I have had any nipple or aerola growth but I am not entirely convinced this is the most effective approach.

I read on the noogleberry forums that some women use makeshift nipple stoppers but because of the potential for sharp edges I don't really want to make my own. I thought about buying this instead, which looks like it might serve the purpose:

Hi!

Hi sweetorange!

Good idea! I haven't looked much in the bandaid aisle lately but waterproof bandaids should work better.

I was also thinking about silicone nipple covers because they tend to have better adhesion and are more reusable than bandaids. Or maybe one of those ahesive bras because they might serve as a nipple/aerola stopper. What do you think?

Nipple covers are a good idea but they have to be large enough to cover all the zone. However you can use both, I mean, a Nipple cover for taping down nipple and nipple area and then 2 bandaids for taping down the areola. This is what I used to do and it worked for me!

Oh, perfect! Thanks :Smile I will try that
Hi, I use reuseable silicone nipple covers, sometimes called pasties. They have an adhesive already on them, they don't irritate my skin like bandaids or medical tape do. I apply them before putting my coconut oil on, then I just dip 2 fingers into the oil and apply it carefully around the pastie so as to not get oil on it. When they lose adhesiveness after about 10 uses, you can wash them with mild soap and water and they revive.

Hi thanks for sharing! I was thinking about getting pasties or something similar. I think I like it better than bandaids because I found the bandaids werw irritating my skin. I will try the pasties. :Smile
