5-HTP
September 10 2007 at 2:33 PM LIZ (Login Liz1967)
Yesterday I started taking a natural pill called 5-HTP. It is to help calm people and make a good sleep. I dont know if anyone here is taking that but i would like to know if it affects NBE.
I stoped taking Vitex and now i'm only with Ginko Biloba and thinking of starting WU again.

I'm also taking green tea extract to avoid high colesterol.

I'm not doing in be right now, but I take 100mg of 5HTP and I love it. It helps me with my anxiety.

Hi, this is what I found "5-HTP is 5-Hydroxytryptophan, and amino acid and a precursor of serotonin, an important neurotransmitter. 5-HTP can pass from the blood to the brain and allow it to synthesis serotonin and it is thought to work synergistically with some nutritional supplements to support the way we feel, otherwise called mood. It is also thought to promote a healthy sleep cycle since serotonin itself takes part in the processes that regulate mood, sleep and also control of appetite."
I know that our bodies produce 5-HTP from food, and what it does all sounds beneficial for NBE, calming the nerves and regulating the sleep cycle. I think I may actually start taking it myself. Good find!

I take 200mg daily and it has not negatively affected my nbe efforts. The only thing is it makes it hard for me to sleep all the way through the night. So I also take a benadryl to help me sleep. But then I seem to be very sensitive to things so this may not be a problem for others. Also if I take it during the day it makes me drowsy. Weird huh?

It is supposed to be good for anxiety, depression, migrains, PMS, ansomnia, weight loss...and a host of other things. It is working for me for what I take it for. Hope that helps some.

edited, had anxiety in there twice, sorry Tongue

I read a lot about this and the person at my natural products store told me and she did also show me several papers with information of this new product, and i believe it is a very good thing because it has no side effects and helps you be calm and sleep better. i already notice that i'm more calm and my mood is much better and only began to take it this week.

I also believe that if it helps me feel better and it is not chemical it only can help me with NBE making herbs working better on my sistem.

I'm so happy I finnaly discovered something good to share with the wonderful people in this forum that may help us to live better with no side effects.

When we have problems sleeping and then take something to help two things can happen:
1 - the problem is over and you will sleep better even when you stop taking the pills
2 - the problem remains and your problem return when you stop taking the pills.

One thing I can say to you: pills to sleep from the pharmacy really make you addicted to it. But natural products dont because I have taken several, like: valeriana, GABA, pills that mixed lots of herbs and i never get addicted, when i was better i stoped and it has no other effect on me.
This product i have read that is abslotutely natural and has no side effects so i think it will not get me addicted at all, like all other i toke. I believe it will help my humor and my sleep is already better. but i think i must take it for some time to really work on my sistem in a way that last.
nbe and 5 HTP

hi guys,

does anyone know whether 5 HTP (a natural anti depressant which increases your seratonin) has any effect on nbe, namely wonderup?

Am bit low at the mo and have found St John's Wort a great help, but don't want to go on this again because it messes my skin up (hence another source of depression!) But nor do I want to mess up my new programme.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I can't see how 5 HTP would do any harm. Does St Johns Wort messyour skin up? I have not noticed that, despite the fact that I have skin problems sometimes.

messes it up in terms of pigmentation... you know how it makes it more sun sensitive? I am fair skinned and seem really prone to getting pigmentaion marks, which then take lots of effort and money to get rid of. Reckon the last batch were down to the increased sun sensitivity from SJW, even though I am good with sun block think the rays still got through!

I have not taken wonderup but I do take combination of herbs and have taken 5HTP for months now and have had great progress with nbe. so i would think that it wouldn't interfere with nbe. If anything I think these are benifecial to nbe because it helps reduce stress levels.

Hi... when did you start your programme? (thinking of the timing of programmes thread - have you read it?)

If you mean for herbs, was in July when I started really sticking to herbs. I did experiment with herbs and other things prior to that. you can see it on my program page.

I'm sure that 5-htp won't have any negative effect on nbe.
5-htp for anxiety/stress/mood? ginseng for energy?

anybody's tried 5-htp? looks pretty good:
http://www.diagnose-me.com/treat/T138573.html
i've used it occasionally but since i'm off st john's wort now considering making it a more regular part of my routine..
also considering taking ginseng as i tend to get sort of sluggish and apathetic (always have, not just on NBE)... st john's used to help a good deal with that as well.. how well does ginseng work as bart of NBE?

My sister used 5-HTP for a long time and found it very effective. She's always been quite moody and that really lifted. In fact, I wish she'd take it again. In general, I'd say it's hit or miss and have seen others take it with no results. I think it's worth a go as long as you don't mix it with any SSRIs or St.John's.

I've no idea how ginseng would work for BE, but it can be good for imparting a sense of calm and alertness. My boyfriend has been facing a lot of challenges lately and has found it extremely helpful. A lot of people have said that stress is bad for BE, so maybe it will help in a roundabout way. Smile

Maybe try sam e? Or fish oil regularly? I've heard about 5htp but not regularly. I know with these things you need to take them regularly before you see results and a good enough dosage.

Sam-e has lots of good claims. I tried taking it to help prevent migraines, but it gave me such an upset stomach I just couldn't take it. I myself am considering taking Ginseng. I think it's Michelle Choi who takes it. If not her, I know I've read of a couple of ladies on here who take it with their programs. I feel very tired especially now with all these hormones.

Ok, my mistake I went back and looked through the program pages and I can't say now where I read someone was taking Ginseng. Sorry about that. It wasn't Michelle Choi and now I don't remember where I read someone was taking it. I was hoping to find it myself, oh well. I will be buying some to try because I have been very tired.
Good luck lil dunny, hope you find something to help you feel better.

Ginseng is an ingredient in wonderup, in case anyone hadn't noticed.
